This past December, just days before Christmas, I received the most wonderful gift imaginable and got to meet my newest nephew, Stephen, who has a birthday at the end of this week on February 27th.
Stephen traveled up the East Cost up for a visit with his parents, my brother and sister-in-law, and we all spent the weekend hanging out, playing music and getting to know one another. They also brought along his wife, my nephew’s wife, that is. My nephew and his wife did not, however, bring their own kids, for which I am grateful. Nothing against their kids of course, but we don’t have a yard or even a barn. What we do have are two house cats and I just don’t know how well cats and goats get along.
Families change regularly, it seems, at least ours, and the unexpected, delightful, twist of 2014 was finding my long-lost brother and reconnecting with him and his family.
And so it turns out that this week I get to wish my newest, oldest, nephew a very Happy 30th Birthday! Even if it took a while for us all to reunite, I’m so fortunate to be a part of this family and I feel even more blessed as it continues to expand.
Happy Birthday, Stephen! Wishing you many more rocking birthdays to come! –Aunt Martina
